Uber and Lyft are different than many local taxi services in that they do not own, operate, or control their cars. Instead Uber and Lyft contract drivers to pick up passengers using their branded name. Unlike taxi companies, individuals looking to use Uber or Lyft services must create an account and download the company's App on their smartphone. The App allows customers to request rides and pay their fares.
When individuals book their rides with Uber or Lyft they are expecting that they will get to their destination safely. However, this isn't always the case.
